Brainwashed, tortured and forced to work in state-run factories. This is the reality for hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs in China -- and the world’s biggest brands like Zara, HUGO BOSS, Apple and Nike are profiting from using this slave labour.
Some companies like H&M have been brave enough to say “no more” to the Chinese government, but big name brands like Zara, HUGO BOSS, and Nike just keep going along with it. And their millions of customers have no idea.
These company execs are terrified its customers will find out they’re taking advantage of the brutal repression of Uyghurs to spin a little extra profit. Let’s make their worst fear come true.
Tell Zara, HUGO BOSS, Apple and other companies to stop profiting from Uyghur forced labour.
Last month, when the government of China slammed H&M for refusing to buy cotton from the East Turkestan region, Zara’s spineless execs bowed to pressure and deleted a statement opposing Uyghur forced labour from its website.
SumOfUs also confronted HUGO BOSS about their involvement in human rights violations in East Turkestan -- but the company refuses to take definitive measures to cut Uyghur forced labour from its supply chain.
There’s no reason they can’t take a stand, just like H&M. If they did and others joined, the government will have no choice but to back off the bullying and reconsider the horrifying treatment of Uyghurs.
All that’s missing is the pressure on them to act. Without it, it’s clear execs will take the easy way out. But our global community has forced major clothing brands to change course before. When tens of thousands of SumOfUs members successfully pressured brands to ensure the safety of workers in Bangladesh -- H&M, Zara and Benetton all got on board. Now let’s do it again.
Tell Zara, HUGO BOSS, Apple and all companies to stop buying materials and products made by Uyghur forced labour!
