The results are in. Tests commissioned by SumOfUs members and our Irish partners at UpLift have revealed traces of glyphosate, Monsanto’s toxic weedkiller, in Guinness beer all across Europe.
This just confirms what we already knew: Glyphosate, a chemical that scientists and court juries have linked to cancer, is everywhere.
Diageo, the multinational booze giant that brews Guinness, has been ignoring increasing evidence of glyphosate contamination. No more. In the face of these test results, Guinness must finally acknowledge and tackle the menace lurking in our pint glasses.
Guinness brewer Diageo: Get glyphosate out of our beer!
Glyphosate is dangerous, and it’s out of control. Even as more and more Monsanto-sickened victims come forward in court, industrial farms in Ireland -- where Guinness’ hops and barley are grown -- keep soaking their crops in this toxic herbicide.
And Guinness isn’t an anomaly. Tests in the US have found shockingly high levels of glyphosate residue in beer brands from Coors to Budweiser. Even organic beer showed small traces of it -- the result of the weedkiller leaking into waterways and blowing onto neighboring fields.
As the world’s biggest spirits company, Diageo could have a huge influence on other beverage makers. If we force it to take a stand against glyphosate now, the rest of the industry will have to follow.
SumOfUs members like you have already proven you’re willing to go the distance in the fight against Monsanto’s weedkiller. You were part of the million-strong anti-glyphosate European Citizen’s Initiative that convinced the EU to pass sweeping food safety reforms this year. Hundreds of you chipped in to fund our tests on Guinness -- and armed with the results, you can convince its parent corporation that glyphosate is as bad for its bottom line as it is for our bodies.
Diageo: Face your glyphosate problem and get weedkiller out of Guinness beer!
