Máxima Acuña de Chaupe has won the Goldman Prize for her work in stopping Newmont Mining from building a giant, polluting mine on her land.
This is absolutely huge, fantastic news. She joins an esteemed group, including activists like Ken Saro-Wiwa.
But we're now even more afraid for Máxima's safety -- last year's winner, Berta Cáceres, was brutally murdered in her own home in a strikingly similar situation. And we've heard that her family is still being harrassed by private security.
So although it's good news for Máxima this week, we know that private security agents will keep harassing her until she gives up.
We can't afford to let that happen. Will you help make today extra special for Máxima and commit to keeping her safe?
