Walgreens Boots Alliance is supporting the plunder of Antarctica and one of the last unspoiled oceans on the planet.
The pharmacy duo is marketing and selling Antarctic krill oil as a health supplement -- vacuuming masses of krill from the Antarctic oceans and pumping them into pills.
And it's putting the entire Antarctic ecosystem at risk.
They may be tiny crustaceans (they look a lot like miniature shrimp), but krill are the foundation of the Antarctic food chain. SumOfUs-commissioned research shows that krill numbers are crashing, endangering the survival of hundreds of marine creatures like whales, penguins, and seals.
Krill-fishing companies will only stop if there's no market for Antarctic wildlife on our shelves. Together, we've already pushed Sainsbury's and other major supermarkets to withdraw krill-killing products. Now, we're calling on Walgreens Boots Alliance to join other industry leaders by refusing to sell krill-killing supplements.

Krill are one of the last fish stocks that haven't been plundered to near extinction. But it might not stay that way for long. The vital population has dropped by 80 percent since the 1970s. What's also shocking is that Antarctic penguin populations, which depend on krill for food, have collapsed by 50 percent in the last 30 years.
It doesn't have to be like this. We can protect our health without it being so costly to the Earth. Omega-3 health supplements can be produced from plants or from fisheries that are sustainably farmed. We need to tell big companies like Walgreens Boots Alliance that consumers won't invest in their health at the expense of the Antarctic's.
Together, our calls for change have already shifted the industry, with big names like UK supermarket giant Sainsbury's committing to keeping krill-killing products off their shelves.
Now, we've joined an alliance of environmental advocates -- from Greenpeace to Lifeline Antarctica -- requesting a meeting with Walgreens Boots Alliance to shift their company policy in line with their stated commitments to environmental sustainability.
Will you join the movement to protect the pristine Antarctic from krill-killing profiteers?
