Glyphosate is pretty much everywhere. After all, the bee-killing Monsanto product is the world’s most used pesticide ever.
That’s why it’s terrifying—but maybe not surprising—that tests have revealed that glyphosate is in our food products, too. An independent study commissioned by the Environmental Working Group found significant traces of the weed-killing pesticide in popular oatmeal, granola, and snack bars.
This is serious. The USDA is tasked with testing food for pesticides to make sure it’s safe for us to eat. And even though the World Health Organization has named glyphosate a probable carcinogen, the USDA still isn’t testing for glyphosate. It’s up to us to change that.
Call on the USDA to test our food for glyphosate and keep us safe from Monsanto’s toxic pesticide.
Even Monsanto’s lobbying machine can’t keep the facts about the dangers of glyphosate from coming out. And while we know that Roundup has been linked to the global decline in bee populations, it’s not just the bees that are hurting.
Just this summer, a lawsuit found Monsanto liable for $289 in damages to Dewayne Johnson, who is battling a fatal cancer diagnosis he says was brought on by decades of exposure to Monsanto herbicides. And in 2017, California added glyphosate to its registry of chemicals known to cause cancer. But glyphosate is still showing up in the foods we eat every day, from Quaker oats to Nature Valley granola bars.
The tides are turning against Monsanto—and it wouldn’t be happening without our SumOfUs community. Together we’ve filed lawsuits, crashed board meetings, and petitioned legislators to take the threat of glyphosate seriously. Now, the next step is ensuring the food we put on the table is free from Monsanto’s toxic pesticides.
Tell the USDA to keep our food free of glyphosate!
