Over the weekend, United Airlines refused to let two 10
year-old girls board a flight because they were “not dressed” according to
company policy.
For United, this means leggings.
After facing backlash on Twitter about the perceived sexist double
standard, the airline explained that the children were “not in compliance with
our dress code policy for company benefit travel.”
Is the mega-airline in the business of policing the dress of
women and girls? Sign the petition and
demand that United review their antiquated dress policy and provide
transparency about attire for employees and families on flights.
Negative reactions to the viral story forced United to make
additional statements, with the final release assuring customers that, “your
leggings are welcome.” United, if leggings
are fine for the general public, why punish relatives or friends of employees,
specifically women and girls? The corporation is still standing by its tone-deaf decision, but we can help United Airlines reconsider its harmful
rule.
Tell the airline to change its tune. Sign the petition and ask United Airlines to please consider how this
policy impacts its personnel and the inherent sexism that it displays, now.
