Uber is building an empire on the backs of drivers working punishingly long hours just to make ends meet. It’s not safe and it’s not fair.
You can change the lives of countless struggling Uber drivers. In order to operate in London, Uber needs a license from Transport for London (TfL) before the end of the month. Here’s the thing: TfL can attach conditions to that license -- so Uber can’t go on ignoring drivers’ legal rights to sick pay, the national minimum wage, and paid holidays.
David Cameron and George Osborne allegedly lobbied for Uber before, so you can bet that TfL is under enormous pressure again to give Uber a license with no strings attached. We have a plan to counter that pressure -- But we need your help to make it happen.
Will you chip in to fund our Uber September action plan?
Here’s our plan:
- We want to commission a YouGov poll to show journalists and TfL that Londoners want to stop Uber exploitation.
- We want to produce a campaign video and promote it on Facebook to Londoners who work for TfL and influential news and marketing media.
- We want to deliver our petition directly to TfL at London city hall, together with Uber drivers and riders.
September is make-or-break time for our campaign to stop Uber exploiting its drivers in London with impunity.
We can win this! TfL and the Mayor of London care about what people say. TfL has some great policies on buying fair trade, guaranteeing a living wage, and even helping stop abuses in its electronics supply chains overseas. SumOfUs members helped secure that last one in 2015, and we can win again if we double-down this month on Uber and TfL.
SumOfUs was created for moments like this -- if we all chip in together, we can defeat even mega-corporations like Uber, and remind regulators like TfL to put people before profits.
Will you chip in so we can do the polling, the video, the Facebook promotion, and petition delivery this month?
