A massive international trade pact between Canada and the EU has been on the brink of collapse for weeks -- and we need your help to stop it once and for all.
Right now, we need to make Prime Minister Trudeau know that opposition to this dangerous deal isn’t just from Europeans -- it’s from tens of thousands of Canadians too.
Plus, we want to let the millions of people in Europe (including hundreds of thousands of SumOfUs members!) who have been fighting tooth and nail for months to stop this deal know that we stand with them.
Can you sign the petition to Justin Trudeau to stop the CETA deal now? We’ll deliver it to him and make sure he hears us.
Opposition to the dangerous Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) has been building for years and is so intense that the official signing ceremony that was scheduled for TODAY had to be postponed.
This is all thanks to a regional parliament in Belgium called Wallonia, and people like you.
The Walloons stalled their country from approving the deal -- postponing CETA’s signing. Now, they’ve reached an agreement that would allow the EU and Canada be able to sign CETA after all -- but the fight isn’t over. The deal still has to be ratified by the Canadian government, plus it has to be signed by the European Parliament AND every single EU member state (all 28!) have to ratify.
And for the first time in any trade deal EVER (that we know of!), the highest court in Europe is going to examine the provision that allows corporations to sue governments for lost profits. This is a big deal. And Wallonia has threatened that it won’t ratify the deal if that provision remains in the deal as is.
Sign the petition to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau now: oppose the CETA deal!
CETA would allow corporations to sue the Canadian government (and European governments too) in for lost profits, weaken labour rights, environmental rights, and food safety standards.
For the last few months and years, hundreds of thousands of SumOfUs members in Europe have signed petitions, donated, and taken to the streets to stop this dangerous corporate-backed deal that prioritizes corporate profit over democracy, workers' rights, consumer protection, and the planet.
And you know what? We’re winning. Even if CETA gets signed soon, it will have to face substantial revisions and even more hurdles before it is ratified. Together, we’re proving that a movement of regular citizens can repeatedly delay and stall a deal -- and that we can stop this deal once and for all if we come together now.
Right now, let’s show Prime Minister Trudeau that he can’t pass this dangerous deal for democracy, access to life-saving medicine, the environment and food safety without us fighting back.
