Canadian mining company Northern Dynasty has been trying for years to build the Pebble Creek mine, a massive open-pit gold and copper mine on the banks of the largest salmon run in the world. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) vetoed the project -- so Northern Dynasty just sued THREE TIMES. 

Scientists have proven that the Pebble Creek Mine would destroy the salmon run, and over 85% of the community and the local tribe are opposed to the project. 

Northern Dynasty has just set its sight on a retired low-level government worker -- Phil North -- who it maintains single-handedly derailed the project, even though North retired months before the EPA vetoed the project.

With your donations, we’ll make sure that Phil can take on Northern Dynasty’s expensive lawyers, and we’ll scale up our fight to stop this project. 

The Pebble Mine would be as deep as the Grand Canyon -- and built on a fishery that supplies 50% of the world’s sockeye salmon, creates 14,000 jobs, and is worth half a billion dollars. Acid mine drainage, heavy metals, and massive chemical discharges could damage or destroy the fishery permanently. 

It’s so dangerous that corporation after corporation has pulled out of the project, including Rio Tinto most recently. But, somehow, Northern Dynasty won’t give up.

After over 180,000 SumOfUs members signed petitions to mining giant Rio Tinto to pull out of the mine, we helped fundraise to get Alaskan native leaders to Rio Tinto’s annual shareholder meeting in London. Rio Tinto listened -- it was a huge win for SumOfUs, our friends at Earthworks, and especially the Alaskan communities most affected by the mine.

Now, let’s make sure Northern Dynasty doesn’t get its way. Let’s show it that people power can prevail again to stop this project.
