In one of France's poorest neighbourhoods, a group of ex-McDonald's employees have taken over what used to be a fast food restaurant -- and turned it into a vibrant community food bank!
But now the land is about to be sold out from under them...unless we step in to help.
Kamel and his coworkers spent 20 years fighting the world's most powerful fast food chain for better working conditions, dreaming of a workplace that could offer good jobs, fair pay, and a chance to lift their community out of unemployment and poverty.
But McDonald's, of course, hated it, doing everything they could to get rid of Kamel. He even had his life threatened! When nothing else worked, McDonald's fired everyone and boarded up the restaurant. That's when Kamel and his coworkers sprung into action, transforming this former fast food stop into the beating heart of their community: "l'Apres M" ("the After M", or after McDonald's).
If 5000 of us can chip in the cost of a McDonald's meal today (or a little more) we can help these community heroes buy the building and turn l'Apres M into a permanent beacon of hope at the heart of the community -- a full-time food bank, meeting and job training spaces, even a restaurant...and much more.
But without help, they could lose it forever. Can you help secure this magical place, and give a deserving community a chance to rise?
