American pipeline giant Kinder Morgan is trying to build a massive tar sands pipeline that would put an entire coastline and communities at risk. But in this David vs. Goliath battle, we have a secret weapon -- the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation.
They're only 500 people strong, but they have the power to stop this project in its tracks. Next week, they’re taking their message right to the most influential people in Wall Street with the ability to deal a major blow to the project.
We have meetings booked with dozens of influential investors, credit rating agencies, and portfolio managers with the power to deal a major blow to shut this project down for good. Let's send the delegation to New York armed with your messages of support so that the Wall Streeters know that TWN is not alone in this fight.
Stand with the Tsleil Waututh against Kinder Morgan now.
The Tsleil Waututh are at the front lines of stopping a project that would put Vancouver's stunning harbour and the whole Salish Sea in danger of an Exxon-Valdez sized spill.
This week, representatives from the Tsleil Waututh are in Ottawa meeting with federal government officials urging them to reject the project. The Trudeau government has until December to make its final announcement on this project. In the meantime, we can target the flawed business case behind the project.
Our strategy is sound: we can make sure these influential investors and ratings agencies know how much risk, uncertainty and opposition there is to this dangerous project.
Last year, our team met with $10 billion worth of Kinder Morgan’s shares, and since then, the shareholder price has dropped by 60%, and Kinder Morgan had to slash its dividend by 75% to avoid being downgraded to junk bond status. The CEO Richard Kinder definitely took notice -- and this year we want to go WAY BIGGER to stop this project for good.

The SumOfUs community exists to fight for people over profits. We’ve taken on some of the largest oil companies in the world from ExxonMobil to Kinder Morgan, and we’re living proof that people power works. Together, we got Tim Hortons to stop running ads supporting Enbridge last year, and just this year, we forced Suncor to start disclosing its political lobbying.
We’re committed to keep fighting and supporting the Tsleil Waututh until this tar sands project is dead -- and we will win together.
