UPDATE: AMAZING NEWS! The Advertising Standards Authority issued its formal decision on the offensive Sun page three promotion. It said "we concluded that it [the advert] was sexist, offensive and socially irresponsible.". What a victory for people power!

The Sun has reached a new low: it’s offering up a topless “Page 3 girl” as a raffle prize. Yes, you read right, a raffle prize. Readers are encouraged to register for this “prize” when they sign up for the Sun’s Fantasy Football Dream Team.

This latest move by the Murdoch-owned newspaper is incredibly offensive to milions of women, and most men for that matter.

Boobs are not news, and the pressure on the Sun is already working. The Irish edition has dropped the topless “Page 3 girl,” after successful campaigning by consumers. If we come together and pressure the UK edition to drop this ridiculous and offensive "prize", we could get them to start giving us real news -- and not the daily objectification of women's bodies.

Murdoch and his cronies are feeling the heat, and now is the time to take action.

Tell the Sun to drop its offensive date-the-Page-3-Girl "prize".

There’s no other way to put it: the Sun is selling women's bodies as a form of news. It is disrespectful to both men and women to confuse perpetuating sexism with actually informing the public of what's happening in our streets and communities.

Page 3 perpetuates a culture where women are seen first and foremost as objects of desire, not people. Considering the reach of its distribution, it’s certain that children see what NoMorePage3 calls ‘soft porn in a family newspaper’ in their homes.

Some of you have already signed a petition asking the Co-op to pull its advertisements from the Sun and to move the paper to the top shelf of stores along with other explicit publications. Public pressure is working, so let’s keep the heat on Murdoch.

Now is the time to take action while the pressure is on Murdoch and his cronies, who keep objectifying women’s bodies for profit.

Tell the Sun to drop this offensive "prize".
