Every year, millions of newly born chicks are thrown into crusher machines. Others are suffocated in garbage bags or gassed.
All this so that agribusiness giants can minimize their costs and maximize their profits. Such cruelty cannot go on.
In 2019, Germany and France pledged to put an end to this cruel practice by 2021. Germany kept its word but France is dragging its feet.
Tell the French government to honor its commitments by ending chick mass slaughter now!
Because they do not produce eggs and their meat is not profitable enough, male chicks are seen as waste by the food industry which carries out their systematic slaughter.
Chicks’ gender is usually identified after 72 hours. At this point, their cognitive abilities are similar to those of a 3 months old baby. Research shows that these chicks fully feel the mortal torment inflicted on them.
This is animal cruelty on a massive scale and it must end now!
Demand the French government to put an end to the mass slaughter of chicks!
In the last few weeks, French members of parliaments, from all sides of the political spectrum, urged the French government to keep its commitment.
At the same time, the passing of a new law banning the slaughter of chicks in Germany has remobilized civil society, which is putting pressure on the French government.
If you and other SumOfUs members get together, as you did for orangutans, captive orcas and bees, we can force the French government to keep its word before the end of 2021.
Tell Macron’ government to act swiftly to end the mass slaughter of chicks.
