The Palestinian keffiyeh has been worn as a symbol of resistance to Israeli occupation for nearly 80 years.
Topshop, however, has released a new dress that uses the keffiyeh pattern to help consumers be "festival-ready." This is blatant cultural appropriation and a disrespect to the thousands of lives that have been lost in the Israeli occupation.
Palestinians live under constant threat to their lives and homes and Topshop should not be profiting on one of their cultural symbols of struggle and resistance.
Tell Topshop to pull its Palestinian keffiyeh print dress.
Cultural appropriation and profiting on symbols from oppressed cultures and demographics is becoming less and less acceptable for clothing manufacturers.
Topshop is already feeling the backlash on Twitter and other social media platforms. We can add to that outcry and ensure that our voices are heard.
By joining with others we will send a strong message to clothing designers: honouring oppressed cultures is not done through appropriating, and profiting on, their symbols.
Please join me in signing today to tell Topshop to remove its Palestinian keffiyeh print dress.
