Just a couple days ago, the IDF killed 33 Palestinians in a designated safe zone in Gaza, including children. Nearly 40,000 people have been killed since October. 

And yet the International Olympic Committee continues to allow Israel to participate in the 2024 Olympics – effectively whitewashing the Israeli government’s genocide of Gaza right on the international stage. 

But there’s still hope. The IOC could still technically suspend Israel - but it will only happen if the head of Ethics and Compliance at the Olympics feels like the whole world is pressuring her to act. 

That’s where we come in. Send an email to Pâquerette Girard Zappelli and her colleagues at the IOC and let them know we are urging them to suspend Israel. Below are some talking points to help you. 

Tell the IOC: there’s still time to stand on the right side of history and suspend Israel. 

Here are some talking points - but the more personal, the better: 

• The world’s highest court has ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestine is illegal and has called on states to not “render aid or assistance in maintaining” Israel’s occupation. As the IOC previously suspended Russia for annexing Ukraine, it’s imperative that the IOC uphold the same standard and suspend Israel immediately. 

• The IOC suspended apartheid South Africa for its racist policies against black players - it’s imperative that the IOC also take the same measures against Israel, which also upholds a system of apartheid against Palestinians. 

• The IOC claims to be neutral on this issue, but by choosing to ignore international law and allow Israel to participate in the 2024 Olympics, the IOC is actively choosing a side and is whitewashing genocide in the process.
