What if we could hold big polluters accountable for the damage they are causing?
This is a decision the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will soon have to take.
Petro-states and fossil fuel lobbies are terrified of what this could mean for them and are trying to water down this judgment.
We have a plan to prevent that from happening: international bodies like the EU have 3 months to submit arguments to influence the court. The EU really cares about their image as a climate leader -- so we can hold them to it!
Let’s make sure the EU tells the court that nothing is more important than protecting the people from the climate crisis. Are you ready?
International law can protect citizens from the climate crisis, but we need the ICJ to make this happen. The court could give us, the people, the power to stop the worst polluters – corporations and states – and sue them for the loss and damage they cause.
Cynthia Houniuhi, the president of the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change who began this quest for justice four years ago shares: “The environment that sustains us is disintegrating before our eyes. I don’t want to show my child a picture of my island one day. I want my child to be able to experience the same environment and the same culture that I grew up in.”
They are asking for the help of the Ekō-Community, to move the EU to take the bolder and stronger climate action that our world so desperately needs. Are you in?
