A year ago Sainsbury's launched a great initiative to help customers reduce household food waste by 50%. This year it's scaling back its goals saying that a 50% reduction will be too hard to meet.
7.3 million tonnes of food are thrown away from households in the UK each year and there is a huge need to reduce the amount of food that ends up dumped.
The "Waste Less, Save More" programme from Sainsbury's has a real potential to change buying patterns and reduce food waste. Its 50% household food waste reduction goal was ambitious and should not be thrown away because it is "too hard".
Tell Sainsbury's to keep its 50% food waste reduction target.
When the bar is set too low, a company has to put little effort into meeting expectations. The 50% food waste reduction goal may be challenging to meet but it will push Sainsbury's to work harder to meet the goal and ensure that food waste is lowered in the UK.
Sainsbury's is one of the biggest grocery store chains in the UK and cares about its public image as a leader in waste reduction.
By adding your voice to that of many other concerned citizens like you, we can ensure Sainsbury's puts forth the strongest effort possible to stop household food waste.
