Haribo, the global gummy bear maker, was using slave labour and animal cruelty in its supply chain. No candy is worth the abuse of people or animals.
Haribo is a global food giant, propelling one of its first owners to be worth $3 billion before his death in 2013. Meanwhile, Brazilian workers farming carnuba wax, a key ingredient in the gummies, are making dollars a day, living in disgusting and dangerous conditions and pigs on one of its gelatin farms are left to wander among the rotting corpses of their fellow animals.
Haribo has said that it is taking steps to ensure that this stops but we know that giant corporations need to be held accountable to their promises.
Will you join me in signing today to tell Haribo to ensure these deplorable farm conditions never happen again?
A recent German report found that there are problems all along Haribo’s supply chain, from modern-day slavery in its carnuba wax farms in Brazil to animal cruelty in its gelatin supplier’s pig farm.
This blatant disregard for human and animal life must stop -- and Haribo knows it. Its recently stated it will go straight to the farms in its supply chain to ensure working conditions are fair and humane.
SumOfUs members like you can help Haribo be accountable to this promise. We’ve done it before when over 130000 SumOfUs members called on Nevsun Resources shareholders to stop using slave labour in its Eritrean gold mines. With the strong voice of members like you we can ensure that these deplorable conditions are never again found on Haribo farms.
Sign today to tell Haribo to ensure deplorable farm conditions never happen again.
