Turning off your location on Android phones doesn’t stop Google from collecting your location information. In fact, there’s no way to prevent your location from being known by Google. This gross breach of privacy endangers many populations including women trying to escape domestic violence.
Most of us know that information means big money for tech giants like Google. This invasive tactic allows Google’s advertisers to target customers based on location, lining Google’s pockets with more money.
A big backlash now could force Google to stop gathering location information from all Android devices and would help protect our privacy.
Will you join me in signing the petition to tell Google to stop collecting location information from all Android devices?
Google is the second largest corporation in the world, valued at over half a trillion dollars. Most of its money is made from selling ads based on your data. Data is big business and Google does its best to gather as much as possible, regardless of our privacy needs.
While Google claims that the location information it gathers from Android devices is not stored, the information does allow advertisers to place location-specific ads. It also opens the possibility of third-parties to gather that information, putting people at risk.
SumOfUs has worked hard to protect everyone’s privacy. Earlier this year, over 25000 of you called on French legislators to protect school data from being collected by tech giants and sold to the highest bidder. With the help of people like you we will ensure that Google gets the message: our privacy is more important that Google’s profits.
Please sign the petition today to tell Google to stop collecting location information from all Android devices.
