Millions of people hit hardest by climate chaos are living in constant fear of floods, tsunamis, landslides, or hurricanes wiping their communities off the map.
Despite suffering the most from climate catastrophes, vulnerable nations are not responsible for the destruction, and still pay the price for it. If you knew the perpetrators, you’d ask them to take responsibility, right? Well …
Burning jet fuel across the globe, the airline industry is one of the world’s largest polluters. And with the biggest climate conference of the year happening in Dubai soon, we have a unique opportunity to call on Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, to be the leader the airline industry and the world need.
Tell Emirates: Lead on climate justice, pay your fair share.
While solutions exist to reduce emissions in other heavily polluting industries – like power and road transportation – airlines continue to rely heavily on destructive fossil fuels. Innovative solutions may be on the distant horizon, but in the meantime, the airline industry continues to fuel a climate crisis that is wreaking havoc on some of the world’s poorest countries.
This year’s global climate conference will focus on operationalizing a "Loss and Damage Fund" established to help poorer countries deal with the devastation caused by climate chaos. Countries are expected to contribute to the fund, but without contributions from the private sector and heavy polluters like airlines, the fund will be useless.
Emirates says it's an environmentally conscious leader of the airline industry, so let’s make sure it lives up to its word and takes a real step toward climate justice ... by committing to pay its fair share into the Fund!
We have the perfect opportunity to convince Emirates to take this important step, and kickstart climate accountability across the airline industry.
But it will only happen if thousands of us demand it.
Add your name and share this with friends and family – let’s convince Emirates to pay its fair share NOW.
As a community, we’ve already succeeded in getting major insurance companies to back out of oil and gas extraction projects. We have experience winning significant victories for climate justice, and together we can make sure that airlines alleviate the harm they’re causing — by paying their fair share.
