Over the last few months, people power has dealt a hard blow to Monsanto & co.
And SumOfUs members like you helped make it happen.
Thanks to over 1.4 million signatures from the SumOfUs community and the work of our amazing partners, EU countries have refused (on four occasions now!) to renew glyphosate’s licence -- the carcinogenic ingredient in Monsanto’s RoundUp -- in Europe for 15 more years.
Let's make this clear: by stopping the reapproval of glyphosate, we’re protecting the health and safety of us, our families, and our loved ones. The World Health Organization and hundreds of studies from independent scientists show there are clear concerns about glyphosate’s health risks -- it causes cancer and has a devastating impact on biodiversity.
Our movement’s pressure on EU countries has worked. Because the French, Italian, German and Dutch governments did not support the renewal of glyphosate, the EU Commission decided to limit the extension of the pesticide’s licence to 18 months only (instead of the 15 years initially planned) with potential restrictions on its use.
Just a few months ago, nobody would have predicted such a defeat for Monsanto & co. Many experts thought that the renewal of glyphosate’s licence -- a product that gives Monsanto a whopping 40% of its revenue -- would be a shoo-in.
But people power is putting the brakes on Monsanto -- and it’s because SumOfUs members like you came out in force when the campaign needed you most.
All these great and unexpected achievements were only possible because of small donations from SumOfUs members like you. Can you donate $5 monthly or whatever you can afford to help power the fight against Monsanto and get an absolute ban on glyphosate in Europe and worldwide?
SumOfUs exists to challenge corporate power and fight for people over profits -- so we can't take a dime in corporate or government money.
The vast majority of our funding comes from thousands of members across the globe.
