The White House has demanded 1.3 million IP addresses belonging to people trying to organize resistance to Trump.
This is absolutely chilling. After Charlottesville and Trump’s repeated refusals to condemn the white supremacist violence on display, this move is scary. It’s a blatant attack on the First Amendment, net neutrality and anyone who opposes Trump’s hateful and xenophobic policies.
Admirably, Dreamhost, the web-hosting provider involved, has so far refused to go along. We have no choice but to show Dreamhost—and the White House—that we will never support handing over the names of Trump resistors to the government.
Show Dreamhost you support its refusal to hand over 1.3 million IP addresses to the Department of Justice.
These IP addresses could be used to identify any Americans who exercise their democratic right to oppose the president’s words and actions. It could reveal names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and business information. All of this simply because Americans are worried about Donald Trump.
That’s not the America we believe in. That’s why we’ve been launching endless campaigns against the worst purveyors of Trump’s hate. Hundreds of thousands of SumOfUs members made Breitbart—the far-right news site that helped elect Trump and urged on the rise of the so-called “alt-right”—lose 90% of its advertisers. Now we need to stand up for those on the right side of history.
Join us and show your support for Dreamhost. Don’t let it turn over IP addresses to the White House.
