Superdrug has just released its profits and they’re staggering: up 41% to a colossal £80.4 million.
Meanwhile women who buy their sanitary items at Superdrug are still left paying tax on their tampons and pads.
Just recently Tesco and Waitrose announced they’d be covering the tax for their customers -- dropping the price of sanitary items by 5%. With Superdrug’s latest massive profits -- it’s time it did the same.

When announcing its profit hike, Peter Macnab, chief executive of Superdrug parent company A.S. Watson’s UK health and beauty division said: “Looking to the future our strategy remains to offer customers everyday accessible health and beauty”
If Superdrug is serious about offering everyday accessible health products to its customers -- it’s time Superdrug used its massive profits to cover the tax on sanitary products.
Superdrug currently offers loyalty points to customers to ‘cover’ the tampon tax on its own brand products. But points for customers loyalty is simply not good enough. It’s time for Superdrug to go one step further and directly cover the tampon tax -- whatever brand women choose to buy.
Charging VAT on tampons is a grossly unfair tax on women.
The UK government has said it’s committed to dropping the tax, but the soonest this will be is next year. Meanwhile women are left forced to pay tax on tampons as the treasury currently deems them ‘nonessential’ items.
Already Tescos and Waitrose have responded to popular pressure, dropping the price of sanitary items by 5% -- it’s time for Superdrug to do the same.

When SumOfUs members come together we’re able to make corporate giants commit to putting people and planet before their profits.
Just a few weeks ago Waitrose responded to SumOfUs members like you calling on it to maintain food and animal welfare standards after Brexit. Waitrose took one look at our petition and immediately committed to maintaining EU standards.
If enough of us come together we can force Superdrug to cover the cost of the tampon tax for as long as the government still determines sanitary products ‘nonessential’
