It takes just one plastic straw to block a sea turtle's airway.
Yet every day, the U.S. alone throws out 500 million plastic straws, many of which end up in our oceans.
McDonald's is one of the worst offenders when it comes to plastic straws. And right now, McDonald's is on the world stage as the leading sponsor of the Winter Olympics.
It's the perfect time to shine a light on McDonald’s plastic pollution and call on the company to stop using plastic straws. Will you chip in to help launch a hard-hitting campaign video, calling on McDonald’s to stop using plastic straws?
Plastic is lethal to marine life and already litters the ocean floor. Scientists have even found that 90% of seabirds have plastic in their stomachs.
At our current rate of plastic use, by 2050, plastics will outweigh fish in our oceans.
And plastic straws are some of the worst offenders. For most people, they are completely unnecessary, are a one-use item, and are rarely recycled.
McDonald's serves 68 million people in 36,000 restaurants across 100 countries every day, and most of them get drinks with straws. Ending McDonald’s straw pollution would be a great start to cleaning up our oceans.
