Companies are having undue influence over our kids’ education thanks to rampant privatisation.
And public school teachers and principals don’t like it. A recent study just revealed that 90% of them are concerned as this isn’t benefiting our kids.
These companies are getting unprecedented access to students’ personal and academic data. They’re writing questions for national tests and they’re producing teaching and learning materials.

Private companies like Pearson, UNSW Global, and British-based National Foundation of Educational Research are effectively in charge of running the national standardised tests (NAPLAN).
That means companies are basically deciding what’s valued in our kids’ education, as a lot of education policy is shaped around these tests.
Teachers have also reported that they feel that students will do better on the tests designed by global education provider Pearson, if they buy Pearson textbooks.
Businesses have also been contracted to standardise and share school and student data -- giving them unprecedented access to our kids’ data, including identity, enrolment, legal, medical, and assessment records. This can be shared with external providers.
Our elected leaders need to hear loud and clear: we want our tax dollars spent on our kids’ future. We don’t want business interests to dictate what our kids learn at school.
You can help stop the privatisation of our kids’ schools by speaking out to our federal and state education ministers now.
The SumOfUs community worldwide has come together to stop governments handing over our public services to corporations at the expense of our health and safety.
