Amazon’s $13.7 billion takeover of Whole Foods is the first step towards squashing small independent grocery stores and securing a crushing monopoly over our food system.
There are so many reasons to object to this merger. It will wipe out consumer choice, raise prices and hand over control of the retail grocery sector to a corporation that has proven time and time again it doesn’t care about anything but pure profit.
It won’t be easy to reverse course. Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, is cozy with Trump and his billionaire cabinet. But Whole Foods customers are already angry at joining forces with a corporation that is virtually antithetical to their entire ethos. If we make enough noise, you bet we can stop this thing.
Tell the Department of Justice to block this horrible Amazon-Whole Foods merger.
Experts are predicting this merger could be the end of grocery stores as we know it. If Amazon is able to consolidate its already immense retail power over the grocery industry—and move it all online and away from our communities—it will hand over incredible influence and wealth to a mega-corporation, fuel inequality and devastate neighborhoods across the country.
We’ve taken our fight to stop the Bayer-Monsanto merger from hell all over the globe. Over half a million SumOfUs members have raised their voice to protect our food systems from corporate greed. Another 600,000 have taken Amazon to task for pumping its money into Breitbart News, the xenophobic, hateful “alt-right” news site that helped elect Trump.
If we let this merger happen, we can bet we’ll see more scary relationships between huge business and hateful propaganda.
Join us and make sure this Whole Foods-Amazon merger never takes place.
