Will glyphosate finally be banned in the European Union after 2022?
Roundup, Monsanto-Bayer’s infamous weedkiller was reauthorized for 5 years at the end of 2017 after numerous scandals: Monsanto papers, lawsuits in the United States, illegal acquisition of journalists and activists private data...
An extension of this authorization is being debated again, and the battle is far from being won.
Dangerous for the environment and public health, it is more than urgent to do away with glyphosate in France and in Europe and to start a real agricultural and food transition.
It is known since 2015 that this substance is classified as "probably carcinogenic to humans" by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), an agency of the World Health Organization. Recently, France’s own National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) strengthened the analysis of risks associated with glyphosate.
Emmanuel Macron had pledged to phase out glyphosate in France "no later than" early 2021. He did not keep this promise, but France, which will take over the rotating presidency of the EU in January 2022, can and must play a leading and unambiguous role to ban glyphosate in Europe.
Let's demand together that France publicly oppose the renewal of the authorization of this toxic pesticide in Europe.
