Three Colorado communities are in the fight of their lives to stop fracking. They’ve introduced historic ballot measures that could put major restrictions on fracking, and protect water and local communities once and for all.
But oil and gas giants Noble Energy and Anadarko Petroleum are fighting dirty to crush the measures, even though the local government warns that the public water supply is at risk.
Just this month alone, these fracking companies have spent millions for billboards and radio ads to try and crush the ballot measures. The truth is we can’t afford for another Flint water contamination crisis to happen -- not here, and not anywhere.
These fracking giants might have the money -- but we have the people power. Let’s stand with the Coloradans who are fighting back to protect their homes and the environment.
Tell Noble Energy to Listen to Coloradans and Stop Fracking in Colorado Cities.
On the banks of the Colorado River, there are already 53 wells and a fracking waste facility -- and natural gas company Ursa Resources plans to add much more if we don’t stop them. The state’s Department of Public Health and Environment has already warned that the six storage tanks at the waste facility already place “wetlands, riverbeds and the public water supply at risk for contamination.”
As of 2016, there are 53,683 active wells and 40,000 inactive wells in Colorado. In just the city of Greely -- home to 98,000 people -- oil companies have already drilled 600 wells within the city limits alone! And thanks to a devastating court ruling, they have been granted the dangerous and destructive power to drill anywhere throughout the state, regardless of the risks to neighborhoods, hospitals, schools and the environment. But we can stop them.
SumOfUs exists to fight for people over profits – and that's exactly what this fight is about. Our members from the UK to Alaska have stood up to fossil fuel giants like Exxon Mobil. Together we’ve stood with the people of Oregon during their people-powered initiative to stop Nestle’s water grab. Now it’s time to side with the people of Colorado in their revolutionary fight against fracking and corporate greed.
Stand with the people of Colorado and tell oil companies Frack Off!
