Canadian health care is in danger.
A medical corporation filed a dangerous constitutional challenge to replace our precious public health care system with a US-style system. The lawsuit goes to trial in less than three weeks -- and we urgently need your help to save public health care now.
Cambie Surgeries Corporation, infamous for illegally over-billing patients, is suing to amend the Medicare Protection Act to allow doctors to charge whatever they want for services -- essentially privatizing our health care system. What’s worse, it will allow international private insurance corporations to flood into Canada.
This one is personal. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. She received some of the best treatment and attention in the world under Canada’s health care system -- and never had to spend a dime to get it. When I think about what could have happened if Cambie Surgeries were in charge of our medical system…

Big U.S. insurance corporations are licking their lips waiting in the wings for us to lose this case.
Dr. Brian Day, the founder of Cambie Surgeries, is the literal embodiment of profit over people. He’s been fighting to dismantle the Canadian health care system for years. Just last year he lost the election to head the Doctors of BC and turn it into a vehicle for private health care lobbying -- by a single vote. But he’s never been closer to privatizing our medical system than this moment.
Day’s strategy is to attack four key pieces of legislation in the Medicare Protection Act. Three of them have to do with stopping doctors working the public system from over-billing. One of them has to do with private insurance being paid for publicly available services. He wants that ban lifted so that people who want to buy private care can get private insurance to provide their private care.
The worst thing is that it cracks open the door for big American insurance companies to weasel their way into Canada. They haven’t had a way in before -- but this could be it.

Day has high-powered lawyers with bottomless pockets -- but we have people power on our side. Millions of Canadians rely on our public health care system every day -- and we need to make sure it is our voices that are heard, not the voices of multinational corporations and profiteers. We’re getting ready to deliver a stack of signed petitions to Cambie Surgeries and hold a major press conference, but we can’t do it without you.
