Together, people power has helped push over 1,300 companies to drop the ultra-right wing Breitbart News (A.K.A Trump News).
The largest company left is the Canadian e-commerce company that runs Breitbart's online store. If we can force Shopify to ditch Breitbart, we'll be dealing a massive blow to Breitbart's ability to expand globally -- and could stop it in its tracks.
Shopify is a $1.9 billion dollar company with 375,000 online stores in 150 countries. It runs the online stores for lots of companies and brands you've heard of, like Budweiser, Red Bull, Tesla Motors, The Economist, and Herschel and many others.
The merchandise for sale in Breitbart's Shopify store tell migrant workers to “Get in line”, and boast about building a border wall, one of Trump’s key campaign policies.
These products aren't just offensive -- they're giving Breitbart revenue to fund its global expansion in time for crucial 2017 elections in Europe.
Shopify's CEO Tobi Lutke is already under massive public pressure to drop Breitbart because of our pressure. 23,000 of us have signed a petition calling on the massive e-commerce company to drop Breitbart. And along with the Sleeping Giants who have been at work for months, we've helped send over 10,000 tweets, flood the CEO's personal inbox, and post thousands of Facebook messages and comments.
The pressure has been so high that Shopify was just forced to respond publicly -- and now the CEO is receiving even more backlash for deciding to keep doing business with Breitbart.
It's clear Shopify is feeling the heat: its own employees are putting pressure on their company to ditch Breitbart, and the company was forced to host an employee town with all with employees to discuss the issue.
With just a just a bit more pressure, we can push Shopify to stop endorsing hate.
