The bees need our help -- their populations are rapidly declining all over the country with some provinces reporting up to 80% losses this year alone. And while the EU takes the right steps to protect the bees -- banning three major bee-killing neonic pesticides by the end of 2018, Canada lags behind.
However, we can change that. Right now, Health Canada is considering a partial ban of one of the biggest neonics, imidacloprid, and is asking for input from people in Canada. This is a huge opportunity to tell Health Canada that we want Canada to follow the EU in a total ban of the three biggest neonics by the end of 2018.
We've left the letter open for you to write your personal message which will have the biggest impact on decision makers. Here's some brief points you can cover:
- The current proposal is good but doesn't do enough
- You want a complete ban of the three biggest neonicitinoid pesticides by the end of 2018
- The EU's ban provides a blueprint on methodology and Canada can follow its lead
- The bees can't wait for action
Once you press send your letter will go straight to Health Minister Taylor and the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).
