Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has come out publicly in support of marriage equality.
The openly-gay Airline boss had come under criticism for his vocal support, with one protester going as far as throwing a pie in his face in May.
MPs like Peter Dutton have criticised Mr Joyce for using his platform to promote a political cause -- but this is a moral stance by Mr Joyce, not a political one.
Let’s show the critics that we think Alan Joyce is standing on the right side of history on this issue by sending him a big thank you.
Alan Joyce: thank you for standing up for what’s right and supporting marriage equality!
If 10,000 of us sign the card we’ll deliver it to Alan Joyce to show him how much we appreciate his support on this issue despite opposition.
Joyce is pressing charges against the pie thrower after the incident. But he’s not the only one standing in the way.
Minister Peter Dutton targeted Mr Joyce after the CEO signed an open letter to PM Malcolm Turnbull urging him to do the right thing and support a change in the law.
This is an a matter of equality: if good people don’t stand up and make their voices heard, they could be drowned out by a vocal minority who stand in opposition to justice.
Australians will vote next month on on the issue -- but MPs are not bound by the public’s decision in their own vote soon after.
That’s why it’s so important for us to stand in solidarity with Alan Joyce: to let our leaders know that the people are with him on LGBT rights, an issue that's important and personal to so many Australians.
We know Qantas isn’t perfect. But as SumOfUs members and ethical consumers, we can’t just criticise corporations when they do bad. We also want to encourage them when they do good.
