A courageous whistleblower has added another corporate scandal to the list: Origin Energy has been ignoring coal seam gas well leaks for over a decade.
A series of allegations has been filed against Origin Energy in Federal Court revealing their deliberate policy of ignoring coal seam gas well leaks. Why? Because Origin calculated it was cheaper to pay fines than comply with legal regulations.
Unreported incidents include: contamination of aquifers, leaking oil and gas into the ocean, radioactive material spills and failure to maintain hundreds of gas wells across Australia and New Zealand for periods of “10 years or more”.
Unlike Origin, we’re not going to ignore this type of behaviour.
