No one should fear the cold in their own home.
Energy bills have risen dramatically in the last year, leaving 7 out of 10 people struggling or barely coping. Just overcoming the Covid pandemic, lower income households are the most affected by historically high inflation as they spend a large share of their income on food and energy.
We believe all people have the right to clean energy for heating, cooking, and lighting. Protecting this right requires immediate support to households to pay their energy bills, and it requires financing the insulation of our homes. To do so, we need the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Central Bank, Ursula von der Leyen and Christine Lagarde to act now.
Help us: call on Ursula von der Leyen and Christine Lagarde to finance home renovations!
Beyond emergency measures to help vulnerable households get through the winter months, we need our homes to be insulated so that they don't consume that much energy in the future. Renovating our poorly insulated homes can save us as much as 1100 euros each year.
76% of us want massive public support for building renovation, and 74% think the European Central Bank should support it.
Insulating our homes is essential to protect ourselves against future energy price shocks, but also to reduce our fossil fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions. Buildings are currently responsible for 40% of the EU’s energy consumption, and 36% of carbon emissions. Failing to insulate means wasting vast amounts of energy and filling the pockets of fossil fuel profiteers and petrostates’ dictators like Putin.
Please, call on Ursula von der Leyen and Christine Lagarde to finance building renovation!
To unlock home renovation, we need public grants and investments as well as 0% interest rate loans. In other words: instead of going to fossil fuel companies and petrostates’ dictators, taxpayers and EU money should be used to keep our energy bills down and decarbonise our homes!
EU leaders must provide grants to fund renovation for low income households while the European Central Bank (ECB) must support global renovation by enabling zero interest rate loans for everyone else.
Join the campaign, call on Ursula von der Leyen and Christine Lagarde to finance home renovation!
