Nestlé just got caught AGAIN using manipulative marketing to push baby milk, one year after the food giant promised to stop.
Researchers from Changing Markets revealed that Nestlé is still adding vanilla flavourings to infant formulas in China and Hong Kong, despite promising to remove those additives in response to our pressure last year.
It also promised to stop misleading new parents with contradictory nutritional information, but guess what: it’s still doing that, too, putting vanillin in some of its formulas while trumpeting the benefits of vanillin-free milk in others.
Finally, Nestlé hasn’t stopped its predatory pricing tactics. By “premiumising” its milk powder, it’s taking advantage of sleep-deprived, cash-strapped families who believe they’re making the best choice by buying the more expensive formula.
Nestlé’s goal should be to provide babies with the best possible product -- not to wring every possible cent out of their parents. Pressure from SumOfUs members successfully got the corporation to remove sucrose, another unhealthy additive, from its infant formulas. If enough of us speak up now, we can force it to follow through on the rest of its commitments.
Tell Nestlé to simply sell affordable, safe, and nutritionally complete infant formula, and stop its manipulative marketing.
