Wow. I don’t know about you but I was totally surprised watching the results coming in last night. With a hung Parliament the future is far from certain.
But one thing is clear -- Theresa May hasn’t got the mandate for her hard Brexit, pro-corporate, austerity agenda. We’re winning the argument.
It’s looking likely May will stay as PM and lead us into Brexit talks in just a few days -- with Article 50 already triggered we need to keep fighting.
But honestly, for the first time in years it feels like we have our chance. Whatever coalition is cobbled together we need to make sure any Brexit deal they oversee protects our public services, environmental safeguards, and rights at work. And a hung parliament means we can.
So today I’m asking you to add your name against this pro-corporate austerity agenda and give us the support we need to stand up for ordinary people as the Brexit deal and political agenda is set in the days and months ahead.
The country wasn’t convinced by May’s arguments -- instead of the majority she staked her political career on, May’s scrambling to pull together support in order to form a government of the walking wounded.
And that will mean May’ll have her work cut out for her.
With a cobbled together, fragile majority created from a deal with another minority party nothing can be pushed through, making each policy up for debate -- it gives us our best chance in years to influence what happens in Westminster and affects us all.
For us to make the most of this opportunity to take on corporate giants and hold our government to account we need to be better resourced and better organised than ever before -- and we need to be able to act quickly.
For this we need you.
With your help we’ll be ready to make sure Brexit doesn’t become an excuse to sell off our NHS, frack our countryside, slash animal welfare and rip up our rights.
SumOfUs is 100% independent and depends on the actions of ordinary members like you. it's your actions and support that allow us to keep winning the battles that matter to all of us.
It’s going to be a tough five years -- but I for one am excited about what we’re going to achieve together.
