From the World Health Organization to independent researchers, experts agree that Roundup, the world’s most widely-used pesticide, is dangerous. WHO labeled Roundup’s active ingredient glyphosate “probably carcinogenic to humans” in 2015, and research has linked prolonged exposure to Roundup to kidney and liver damage.
For too long, Monsanto has denied these claims and slandered scientists who dared to stand up to its profitable pesticides. But the tides are turning and governments are refusing to subject citizens to dangerous pesticides like glyphosate. In an unprecedented development, EU member states have repeatedly rejected a proposal to extend glyphosate’s licence for use.
Facing a new consensus on the danger of glyphosate, Monsanto can’t keep playing its game of evade and deny. That’s why we’re coming together now to call on Monsanto to submit to the facts and pull Roundup from the shelves now.
Tell Monsanto there’s no avoiding the truth: glyphosate is dangerous and must be removed from Monsanto products.
Lab studies have shown exposure to miniscule amounts of Roundup over time - lower than what is allowed in U.S. drinking water - can cause kidney and liver damage in lab rats. And scientists have implicated glyphosate as the potential cause of Sri Lanka’s kidney disease epidemic, which has claimed the lives of over 20,000 Sri Lankans living in the country’s rice paddy farming region since the mid-1990s.
When the WHO declared glyphosate “probably carcinogenic,” Monsanto did nothing but deny, deny, deny. But with countries across the world taking measures to ban glyphosate, and with revelations that a UN panel that declared glyphosate safe for use was led by a Monsanto-funded scientist, the pesticide giant needs to find a new tactic.
We know how hard it is to budge Monsanto. But we also know that when we come together, powerful things can happen -- like when SumOfUs members submitted a shareholder petition for executive accountability at Monsanto’s general meeting this year. With unprecedented opposition to Roundup from governments, scientists, and concerned citizens across the world, the time is now to come together and demand Monsanto pull glyphosate from its products now.
Tell Monsanto to stop selling Roundup and other products with glyphosate.
