Exposure to Monsanto’s Roundup cost Dewayne Johnson his life.
The former school groundskeeper only has months to live before the glyphosate-born cancer in his body kills him. Thankfully, a San Francisco jury ruled in his favor -- ordering the “malicious” Monsanto to pay him $289 million in damages.
This is a landmark ruling that could destroy Monsanto’s flagship product and set-off a domino effect worldwide.
That's why the company is lobbying the judge to overturn the jury’s verdict—meaning Monsanto could avoid accountability and continue to wreak havoc with its toxic products yet again. We cannot let that happen.
Tell Judge Suzanne Bolanos: Dewayne Johnson deserves justice—don’t overturn the jury decision to hold Monsanto accountable.
Dewayne Johnson deserves justice. But this case is way bigger than just him. There are 4,000 similar cancer lawsuits against Monsanto awaiting trial—which means the verdict in Johnson’s case could make or break thousands of other people fighting for their lives and accountability from Monsanto.
Johnson’s case revealed internal Monsanto documents his lawyer says proves Monsanto has known of Roundup’s links to cancer for decades. That’s why the jury’s verdict, which held the company responsible for “negligent failure,” is so unprecedented.
But the presiding judge in the case, Judge Suzanne Bolanos, has already made a tentative ruling that could overturn the $289 million punishment and start the whole trial over again. That’s why we need to come together now to stand up to Monsanto’s legal meddling.
Tell Judge Suzanne Bolanos: justice has been served—don’t overturn the jury decision to hold Monsanto accountable.
Monsanto still claims that Roundup is safe, and has attacked the growing scientific consensus that its key ingredient, glyphosate, can cause cancer. But it’s a losing battle: in a stunning blow to Monsanto, the World Organization’s cancer arm classified glyphosate as a “probable carcinogen.”
While Johnson has faced years of painful skin lesions caused by his blood cell cancer, he’s not just worried about himself. “I never would’ve sprayed that product on school grounds...if I knew it would cause them harm,” he testified.
Judge Bolanos has the power to make or break the future of Roundup, Monsanto’s star product and the world’s most widely used herbicide. That’s why we need to rally behind Johnson and demand Monsanto pay him what he’s owed. This our chance to finally hold Monsanto accountable—for Dewayne Johnson and the countless others impacted by toxic Roundup.
Judge Bolanos: don’t overturn the jury’s decision to hold Monsanto accountable for Dewayne Johnson’s cancer.
