Update: February 7, 2018: Amazing news! Minister LeBlanc just announced new amendments to the Fisheries Act that would reinstate environmental protections of fish habitat. This is a major move forward for the protection of wild salmon! And it's because of caring people like you. Thank you for speaking up to protect wild salmon!  

Update: November 30, 2017: Incredible update! Minister LeBlanc just announced he is "open" to any suggestions for improving the fisheries act when it comes to protecting wild salmon! He plans to have updates to the Fisheries Act ready to introduce in the first few months of 2018. Add your name to the petition to keep up the pressure! 

It's unimaginable. Disgusting footage was just released of parasite and virus-filled farmed salmon blood being pumped out of salmon processing plants off Vancouver Island. The worst part? It's being dumped right into critical wild salmon migratory routes.

Scientists tested this disgusting effluent and found a deadly virus linked to heart and skeletal muscle inflammation in wild salmon that causes heart lesions and organ hemorrhaging.

Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc can stop this needless contamination immediately by changing the Fisheries Act to ban the dumping of infectious waste. He needs to hear from you now because the longer we wait -- the more wild salmon are at risk of infection.

The disgusting footage was captured in Brown’s Bay at a plant used by Cermaq and in Tofino Harbour at a plant run by Creative Salmon. Both pieces of footage were captured by Tavish Campbell on investigative dives. The footage is almost unbearable to watch.

In Norway, pumping "blood water" out to sea untreated is illegal. But in Canada, it is not. Canada doesn’t regulate fish processing effluent, and this footage shows why it must. 

Wild salmon populations are already seriously in decline, and disease from farmed salmon is a major contributor. Salmon farms must be removed from the oceans, but

one simple thing we can do now to protect the salmon is to ensure they are not being needlessly exposed to huge amounts of infectious waste.
