McDonald’s is ditching plastic straws in the UK. This is a great success -- but it’s only a first step.
Plastic straws dumped into the sea cause serious harm to marine animals, getting stuck in sea turtles’ nostrils, lodged in the stomachs of seabirds, and in our food chain after being eaten by fish. That’s why we’re asking McDonald’s to implement a ban in the Netherlands!
We’ve seen the fast food chain respond to our pressure: now, with your help again, we can make it do the same in the Netherlands. Can you help the fight to save our oceans and wildlife?
McDonald’s: stop using plastic straws in the Netherlands!
Six million tonnes of plastic waste end up in our oceans every year. A large part of that is straws which pollute our oceans for hundreds of years -- with deadly consequences for wildlife.
Ditching straws in the UK is a great start, but McDonald’s must ultimately roll this out all across Europe -- and that starts with the Netherlands. It’s up to us now to ramp up the pressure.
McDonald’s: extend your ban on plastic straws to the Netherlands!
Since last year, SumOfUs members from all over the world have been urging McDonald’s to ditch plastic straws. More than 388,000 of you have signed the petition and sent over 21,000 direct emails to McDonald’s executives. Our pressure is working -- tell McDonald’s to ban straws in the Netherlands too!
