As Covid cases increase and protections are removed in many countries, governments have decided that vaccination & treatments alone will be enough for us to keep us safe.

We’ve seen how vaccination helps keep hospitalisation and death rates down. New antiviral treatments could be a game-changer to stopping the virus in its tracks -- especially for those most at risk.

But Boris Johnson’s UK government is blocking the poorest in the world from having access to these life-saving therapies.

This could change. Just last week, a group of 31 parliamentarians -- including an ex-minister --  wrote to the government calling on it to fully support a plan to end Big Pharma’s vaccine monopoly.

A huge global outcry could push it to act.

Call on the UK government to support the intellectual property waiver and knowledge sharing on covid technology to save lives now and bring the pandemic to an end.

Costa Rica, India and South Africa have been asking for an end to Covid patent monopolies since the early days of the pandemic.

What’s stopped it from happening already is richer governments in thrall to Big Pharma’s lobbyists.

Until everyone, everywhere in the world is vaccinated and has access to treatments there will be a threat of new variants. We’re in a race against the virus, and protecting Big Pharma’s profits is slowing us down.

We can win the fight if the UK drops its opposition to a plan that would end patent monopolies on Covid vaccines, tests & treatments.

Thanks to public pressure -- and actions of SumOfUs members like you, US and Australian governments both agreed to support the waiver plan. But the UK and EU are still holding out.

Recently a ‘compromise’ proposal was leaked, but it doesn’t go far enough to solve the problem, so we need to keep up the pressure.

If the UK changes course, the end of this pandemic really could be in sight. And we all want that.
