In the United States, ICE enforces Trump’s inhumane immigration policies of family separation and detention. Frontex makes immigrating to the coasts of Europe a death trap -- and in the best case, a living hell. By helping them gather user data and recruit and train new employees, LinkedIn is complicit in their actions.
If the company were to stop supporting these agencies, it would weaken them and set an example for the rest of the tech world. We’re calling on LinkedIn to drop its contracts with both Frontex and ICE. Will you join us?
Tell LinkedIn to put human rights over profits and end its support of Frontex and ICE.
Records show that LinkedIn received a total of €63,500 from Frontex in 2017, in exchange for “Professional Networking Services”. This means Frontex is likely paying for a lucrative Recruiter account, giving the agency an all-access pass to LinkedIn’s user database.
This doesn’t just mean a giant pool from which the border control brutes can cherry-pick new recruits -- it means the ability to anonymously collect dossiers on nearly 500 million users (including you!) to aid in their deportation efforts.
Meanwhile in the US, despite a public statement that LinkedIn opposes “any actions taken by the U.S. immigration authorities to separate families at the border,” the company accepted $3600 from ICE for access to online educational services. This may seem insignificant, but if we get LinkedIn to break it off it will send a no-less-powerful message: that the tech world doesn’t support the devastating actions ICE has been taking to tear apart immigrant families.
The public is already putting pressure on Microsoft to cut its ties with ICE -- employees and programmers at the company have been speaking out against its complicity in inhumane border control practices, and their pushback has made national headlines. If we can get LinkedIn to end its contracts with both agencies, other tech companies that have been supporting them could follow suit, rendering ICE and Frontex powerless and raising more awareness of their horrific human rights abuses.
Help us spread the word: Call on LinkedIn to stop accepting money from US and European immigration agencies.
