Illegal fishing and human rights abuses are all too common in Thailand's tuna fishing industry.
A practice called "transshipment" -- where ships avoid landing and transfer fish between each other -- is allowing this to happen. In this way, fishers can avoid fishing regulations and prevents workers from reporting human rights abuses.
Recently, Greenpeace has convinced Mars and Nestle to stop transshipment in their pet food supply chains and are now working to get Thai Union, one of the largest tuna suppliers, to commit to removing transshipment from its supply chains.
Tell Thai Union to stop transshipment and protect oceans and workers' rights.
SumOfUs can join with Greenpeace in the fight against transshipment. We know that, together, we can make a bigger difference and make major changes in the tuna industry towards better working conditions and healthier oceans.
By joining forces and engaging more concerned and active citizens like you, we will force Thai Union to listen.
Transshipment is responsible for over-fishery and human rights abuses of vulnerable migrant workers. These practices have gone unchallenged for long enough.
Please join me in signing today to tell Thai Union to stop transshipment.
