Jeremy Hunt has proposed a plan which could hand private corporations huge NHS contracts. Right now our underfunded NHS is facing a winter crisis of Hunt’s own making, with bed shortages across the service, and doctors being forced to work inhumane hours.
The new plan, where specialised NHS bodies would be replaced by unaccountable Affordable Care Organisations (ACO), would do nothing to solve the current plight of staff and patients -- and could mean the backdoor privatisation of our NHS.
A coalition of doctors and high profile scientists like Stephen Hawking are taking the government to court over the ACO proposal -- stand with them and help protect the NHS.
Tell Jeremy Hunt to scrap his plans for Affordable Care Organisations!
Private companies post ever-greater profits extracted from our NHS, with public costs hitting £2 billion last year -- Jeremy Hunt’s ACO plan could see that number increase.
With major PFI player Carillion’s recent collapse damaging public trust in private contracts, the proposal is facing a huge public backlash. Campaign group JR4NHS (of which Professor Hawking is a member) recently won the right to a judicial review of the ACO plan.
Physician and JR4NHS member Dr. Colin Hutchinson said, “There needs to be a sound legal basis before 10-year contracts worth billions of pounds are outsourced to these new organisations.”
Tell Jeremy Hunt to scrap his plans for Affordable Care Organisations, and stop the backdoor privatisation of the NHS!
SumOfUs members like you have come out fighting for the NHS before -- when Lord Warner suggested charging patients to see their GP, over 80,000 of you signed the petition to reject the proposal. Together, we won -- let's do it again.
