The World Bank announced it is dismissing OceanGold's case against El Salvador. The long awaited decision prevented a gold mine that would destroy a local river and one of the last sources of safe water in El Salvador from being built.
Thanks partly to SumOfUs members taking actions, sharing, signing and donating, we helped stop yet another case of corporate bullying. But the fight against mining giants and their thirst for profits continues. International trade deals like the Trans Pacific Partnership will increase the frequency of lawsuits against small and poor countries by massive and rich corporations, as well as enhance the powers of secret courts in ways we have not yet seen before.
