Dow’s chlorpyrifos is everywhere: fruits, honey, and parks. This widely used neurotoxic pesticide harms children's developing brains and nervous systems -- and anyone coming in contact with it.
The EU could ban chlorpyrifos for good this summer but Dow Chemical is pouring millions of dollars in lobbying to keep its toxic product in our fields and parks.
We need to get ready to push hard against the toxic pesticide and convince European deciders to vote for a total ban. And we haven’t got much time: the influential review from European health agency EFSA is expected any day now and will serve as a basis for the Commission to make a decision.
With your help we can put together an emergency campaign. Are you in?
Will you please chip in to help ban Dow’s chlorpyrifos once and for all?
Chlorpyrifos is a neurotoxic pesticide particularly disastrous for children. It is linked to mental and psychomotor delays, attention disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders. Kids love eating fruits and playing in parks, and that’s exactly where you find chlorpyrifos.
Insects and animals are also in danger when exposed to the pesticide. Bees experience altered behavior and difficulties moving when exposed to chlorpyrifos. Dow’s toxic chemical also kills bee larvae, up to 60% of them.
Agricultural workers exposed to chlorpyrifos can suffer from symptoms including nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, seizures and paralysis. These workers who are often low-income and with limited access to health services are direct victims of Dow’s.
Will you please chip in to help convince European deciders to ban Dow’s chlorpyrifos pesticide?
In 2000, the US banned chlorpyrifos for residential use, deeming it too dangerous. And in 2015 the EPA proposed a total ban of the pesticide. This ban was blocked by the Trump administration who received a million dollars from Dow. In 2015 only, Dow spent 4,4 million dollars in lobbying in Europe.
SumOfUs will never have as much money as the toxic pesticide industry, but with your help we can hold European deciders accountable and force them to put people before profits.
Together, we’ve stopped Dow Chemical from poisoning us in the past. In France, your donations helped our partner Générations Futures Fight Dow Chemical in court and win a total ban of its bee-killing Sulfoxaflor pesticide.
We know how to win against pesticide giants, and with your donation today, we can make it happen again.
