Next week, the biggest agricultural trade show in the US is taking place in Iowa. The whole thing is sponsored by Monsanto -- a chance for Monsanto to suck up to farmers and pedal its dangerous pesticides.
It’s ironic, really.
Because at the same time Monsanto is planning to merge with pharma giant Bayer, which would lead to the ruin of many local family farms. A merger would create a quasi monopoly with prices going up and choice going down.
But we have a plan: we want to crash this pro-Monsanto trade show and make sure that the people most affected by this merger -- the farmers -- know just how dangerous this deal is.
If you chip in today, we can charter a plane to fly over the trade show with a slogan to “Stop this Merger From Hell” -- and really piss off Monsanto. Can you imagine? The press would LOVE it.
We've only got 3 days to put something together -- we don't get handed these chances every day. And we can only do it with your help. Are you in?
Monsanto is in a tough position right now. Public opinion is turning against its dodgy merger with Bayer. And because SumOfUs members donated, we were also able to get world-class lawyers to produce a white paper to show how bad the merger would be for competition in seeds and pesticides, particularly in the United States.
If we don't win, the expert agree: it'll mean higher food prices for all of us, with less choice, and the scary possibility of a massive monoculture that could be wiped out with just one bad disease.
We are already planning to send organisers to the show who will give out flyers and speak to farmers about the risks of this merger. But with your help we can make our protest much, much bigger.
Can you help us charter a plane to crash Monsanto's party?
