Swathes of stunning Yorkshire countryside are about to be turned into a giant gas and oil field.
For years, Rathlin Energy has been taking over the land surrounding the tiny village of West Newton. The energy giant has dumped gigantic, guzzling oil and gas wells across what were once peaceful rolling fields.
And now, Rathlin is about to double these operations and build two more wells.
This is awful news for the local community. Volunteers have spent two years camped outside the sites, painstakingly monitoring pollution levels, and tracking what Rathlin is doing. But with a double whammy of covid and winter approaching, they’re worried they’ll have to pack up and let Rathlin win this battle.
Thanks to SumOfUs members like you, they were able to make it through last winter. So they’re asking for your help once more.
If you chip in today, you’ll arm West Newton’s defenders with everything they need to prove the damage these frackers are doing -- and use the evidence to send Rathlin packing. They need drones, camcorders, radios, night vision cameras, and supplies to keep warm through the winter -- but these don’t come cheap.
Can you chip in today to give these defenders a fighting chance to save their home?
