The government has just rammed through Priti Patel’s policing bill – handing the police aggressive new powers to suppress protest, prosecute activists, even arrest Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people simply for living their lives.
This is the draconian expansion of police power SumOfUs members have done so much to resist. Now we must find ways of keeping each other safe.
Grassroots group Level Up has found a way: specialist online trainings to teach people what to do if they see police abuse, like street harassment, a violent stop-and-search or heavy-handed policing at a protest.
But they’re working on a shoestring and urgently need funds to hire experts who can interpret the law, roll out more trainings and reach everyone most at risk of harm.
Just £10 is enough to train one person. Chip in whatever you can, and let’s keep our communities safe from violent policing:
