Corals have lived in our oceans for 500 million years. Now scientists say they could be almost entirely wiped out by 2050.
That they face annihilation within three decades is beyond comprehension.
But an amazing group of conservationists and scientists in Fiji have discovered something that could offer a lifeline to coral reefs – and they need our help.
After a mass bleaching event nearly wiped out Fiji’s reef, the scientists discovered a small number of heat-resistant corals had survived intact. Now they’re working flat-out to protect and grow these ‘super corals’ and use them to nurse degraded reefs back to life.
This work could literally change the future for the world’s reefs – but it needs scaling up fast. That’s why these heroes are asking for your help to train up teams of “coral gardeners” and spread their techniques far and wide. Are you in?
